Close encounter with History and Nature

Sprawled across 1500 acres of glorious Umbrian countryside, midway between Florence and Rome, Le Torri di Bagnara surveys a sweep of the Tiber Valley, dotted with castles and hilltop villages.

A former 11th century abbey complete with medieval towers, Le Torri di Bagnara is actually a collection of historic residences, castles and woodland complete with lakes and a natural reserve. Perched high in the Umbrian hills not far from Perugia and many of the area’s historic gems, this peaceful estate makes a tailor-made base for a stay in central Italy.

Make yourselves at home in one of the luxury 11th century Abbey’s relais seven rooms encircling a courtyard, or choose from one of our four luxury apartments set in a 11th century Tower just up the hill. All have been beautifully restored. Furnished with antiques and elegant fabrics, rooms come with every modern comfort. Some have barrel vaulted ceilings, terracotta floors, working fireplaces and Romanesque windows, in addition to satellite TV, air conditioning, rain showers, WIFI, whirlpool baths and plenty of fluffy towels. All enjoy sweeping views of the Umbrian countryside.

Outside, you’ll find panoramic terraces, gardens rich in flowers, fruit and fig trees, and an infinity salt water pool with fantastic hillside views that catches the rays from dawn to dusk. There’s a reading room packed with books, and even a church perfect for tying the knot should the fancy take you. Mountain bikes, cooking classes, truffle hunt, wine and olive oil tasting, and many additional activities are available on request.

Le Torri di Bagnara’s huge estate is criss-crossed with walking and biking trails, woods for berry-picking, a sprinkling of lakes and a farm where olives, honey and orchard-grown fruit and vegetables are harvested. “Chianina” cattle, chicken and goose are reared on the farm, while wild boar, roe deer and partridge roam in the woods.

Our  hearty Umbrian cuisine wins plenty of plaudits from our Guests, and evenings start with drinks on the terrace, with its vistas of ancient Italy. You’ll be well looked after by the warmth and hospitality of the owners - descendants of emperor Napoleon 1st  - and our friendly team.

A great stopover between Roma and Florence, Le Torri di Bagnara also makes a great base for exploring Umbria - often hailed as Tuscany without the crowds.
