Abbey " Pieve San Quirico" (Historical Centre of the XI century)
“PIEVE SAN QUIRICO” is a little Abbey wholly realised with stones, of the XI
century and bound by the
Umbrian Monuments and Fine Arts Office.
It’s very ancient
and for this reason it appears in all the geographic cards and
several times Papa Leone XIII stayed there around XIX
century.
It accommodates 4
doble rooms and 3 luxury Jr suites (in total 15 bed seats),
sitting rooms, bar, dining rooms, including breakfast and
bar services.
The Abbey consists of Church, Belltower, Sacristy and Parish
House,
horseshoe positioned and closed, on the fourth side, by
a boundary wall. One can access to the court by an ancient
stone arch.
In the middle of the complex is a large stone paved court, with
an ancient well in the middle.
All the area is surrounded by a garden-park of 5000 square metres, with oaks-,
olive- and cherry trees, and where is also a panoramic swimming pool.
The entire framework is original, in fact it has not undergone
works of enlargement or alteration recently.
The last intervention of adjustment dates back to XVIII century.
The current restoration works have been realised according to the
bonds and indication of the Umbrian Monuments and Fine
Arts Office,
and with the employment of ancient material and traditional
working technique.
It has an outside lightning with ancient streetlamps lined with
forged iron, and a parking.
In the central body (Parish house) are the
reception, the dining rooms, the bar, the kitchen, the living
room and the tavern. It
has three floors : the ground mezzanine floor, the first floor
and the attic, where is a large roof-terrace, which offers a panoramic
view in three different sides, connected by a stone staircase.
In the inside, we can find ancient loop-holes and arches
of the Middle Ages.
The bell tower has an octagonal form, and inside of it, there
are three small rooms, where people can play cards or simply
read, entering through an external wooden staircase. The room
located over the top of the tower has a 360 degrees panoramic
view, and finds in the same place where long time ago were the
bells.
The Church has been re-built during the XVII century, and it is
defined by the high vaulted ceiling, the baptismal font
and the frescoed woody landing, where there was the pipe organ; the church
can seat till 100 people and be a good choice for concerts and
marriages.
