“PIEVE SAN QUIRICO” is a stylish 11th century stone Abbey and historic complex. Being very ancient, it appears in all the geographic maps of Umbria. It was the summer residence of Pope Leo the 13th around 1880; he had been Bishop of Perugia for 30 years, so he knew well Pieve San Quirico.
The Abbey is composed of a beautiful church with frescoes inside - still consecrated and devoted to Saint Quirico, octagonal bell tower, sacristy and parish house, and has been restored to a boutique hotel with 7 luxury rooms. One can access to the court by an ancient stone arch. In the middle of the complex is a large stone courtyard, with an ancient well, surrounded by lemon trees. The entire framework is original; in fact it has not undergone works of enlargement or alteration recently. The last intervention of adjustment dates back to XVIII century. The current restoration works have been realized according to the bonds and indication of the Umbrian Monuments and Fine Arts Office, and with the employment of ancient material and traditional working technique.
Make yourselves at home in one of the 7 luxury rooms encircling a courtyard. All have been beautifully restored. Furnished with antiques and elegant fabrics, rooms come with every modern comfort. They have terracotta floors and wood beam ceilings, in addition to satellite TV, air conditioning, heating, mini-bar, WIFI, safe-box, large ensuite bathroom equipped with rain shower + tub, and plenty of fluffy towels including swim towels. All rooms enjoy sweeping views of the Umbrian countryside.
Outside, you’ll find panoramic terraces, a 5.000 sqm garden rich in flowers, fruit and fig trees, a botanic garden a kitchen garden and an infinity salt water pool with fantastic hillside views that catches the rays from dawn to dusk. There’s a reading room packed with books, and even a church perfect for tying the knot should the fancy take you.
There is outside lightning with ancient streetlamps lined with forged iron, and a large parking area.
In the Abbey are reception, bar, restaurant, living rooms and the Medieval tavern. It has three floors : the ground mezzanine floor, the first floor and the attic, where is a large roof-terrace, which offers a panoramic view in three different sides, connected by a stone staircase. In the inside, we can find medieval loop-holes and arches.
The Church has been re-built during the XVII century, and it is defined by the high vaulted ceiling, the baptismal font and the frescoed woody landing, where was the pipe organ; the church can seat 80 and could a good choice for concerts and celebrations.
